Alot of these places have many things in common. Most of which is that they provided a shit ton of fun. That fun is lost. Anet why is that?!

Another vote for old school griffon farming
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXbtezyEsHM

It was by far the most fun run because it relied on creating enough healing to overpower the incoming offense rather than using "invincible" builds like SF/55/600.

55 Mo/N with SS farming griffons was my favourite nerfed farm.

A close second for me is the HotS dungeon which took just 7 mins to run from start to finish solo as W/E. 'twas nice when Onyx and Diamonds were worth a lot more, and ele swords were worth more too and also frequently drop from that chest.

I started to play Guild Wars in december 2005, and I was a newb for a very long time. So I still thought farming was something like milking cows etc. So I missed the griffon farm. I was lucky that Monk was my first char so when I got to Droks for the first time, I could farm trolls immediatly. I get tears in my eyes when i think back to the non-lootscaling era (or not). Anyways Anet should f*ck themselves, and delete the lootscaling.

But the best farm ever for me was the UW Permasin. Best runs: 10 ecto's in less than 15 minutes.

Mist Form Matuu Keep... Farmed it for 7 days made 1.4 mill. Then it got nerfed. Did I overfarm it? This was like a week and a half after Factions release.

It probably can't be done because of the coding, but, this would be great fun!!! They could call it Retro Weekend. We can only access Prophesies and only use the skills and weapons from that era. They could bring back the HoD sword and the Req 8 Chaos Axes, etc.

Or, just bring back the most popular farming areas for just a weekend. From what I've read, here, it would be the Ettins and the Griffins. Most people miss the fun of it more than the loot that dropped.

In their zeal for political correctness, A-net has laid a big egg as far as I'm concerned. They are determined to level the playing field for all players, to make the casual player equal to the avid player. That is the reason why they nerf so many builds. In doing this, they continually squash creativity, intelligence, and, fun. Some of those nerf builds were brilliant. Most were not that easy to master, but, when you did master the timing, etc. they became easy. And, it wasn't like they were a big secret. All the nerfed builds and the farming places were highly publicized so that anyone could use them. And, I want to emphasize that they were fun, really fun.

Ironically, they can never really make things equal. When they nerf one build, and one farming area, people come up with other builds and other areas to farm. There are almost 300 elite skills and over 1300 regular skills. That means there are potentially infinite possibilities for creating a build that works better than all the rest in a certain area. Because of this, I think A-Net should stop nerfing builds and start encouraging people to come up with more uniquely powerful builds. It would certainly be more fun.

In my not so humble opinion, you are wrong.
The main reason for nerfing certain overpowered builds and the introduction of anti-farm code (the aggro-change and loot scaling) has mainly to do with leveling the field between farmers and regular players.
Why? Because at a certain point in time the 'old' days players were required to farm when they wanted something that should be accessible to most regular players.

Let me explain this a little. Without supply and demand the fair value of an item is the value of the time it requires to obtain it.
For example, if you can farm an ecto every half hour the fair value of an ecto is the amount of gold you can farm in half an hour. If the item is much more expensive, you would farm the ecto yourself. If the item is lower priced, no-one would farm it anymore since it would be easier to farn the cash for the item.

Now the time to obtain 10K in farming and 10K with regular play was huge.
10K was easily farmed back then, with play it required several high-end missions in Prophecies. Taking much longer. Besides that solo-farmers had the advantage of getting the drops for 8 players.
This forced players into farming or spending huge amounts playing.

If you are a skilled player, sure, you should be rewarded. But there should also be a reward for the players who are skilled and like to team up with others. And in the past that was not the case. Solo-play was rewarded a lot more than team play.

Anyway, on topic.
One of my favorite (fun) farming spots used to be VwK Kephket farming when the ranger foes were bugged. No need to cast mantra back then.
But then, I'm not that much of a farmer, like teaming up with others more.

I used to farm the Troll cave in Snake Dance quite a bit. A bit of Ettin farming too, though never really got lucky with drops.

I don't believe A-Net actively changes things to effect the Economics of the system and if they did it wouldn't matter. People are going to find a way to enrich themselves financially if they so chose. It is the players, for the most part that assigns a certain value to an item, based on supply and demand. A-net cannot predict what players will deem valuable.

I noticed, in the early years of the game, there seemed to be an elite class of people who traded high end, rare, items among themselves. Again, these items were assigned a value by the players, because in most cases, you could get a weapon with the same stats from a collector.

In the past, as now, you do not need to farm to get what you need to play the game. And, you can accumulate a lot of K's by just playing the game. For instance, I've been trying to max out my vanquishing titles and cartography. I have been averaging 100K per week doing this by picking up everything and accessing the chests with lockpicks(another title). I stopped farming after they nerfed the Ele, so I couldn't solo farm Torment gems and I have no problem accumulating wealth in the natural course of just playing the game.

Here's a fun one that didn't pay off a lot: Taking that long trek up to those ice caves in search of an Icy Dragon Sword.

I was enjoying occasional VSF runs with my alliance members before the SF nerf. Now we have nothing to farm of any interest or value. Usually things are nerfed before I hear about them because I am too busy playing the actual game or helping others play the actual game. (Which is, ofcourse, insufficient to get players the kind of things they might want, need, or find interesting.)

Well for me it has to be Ettin Farming for the sup absorption and sup vigor runes which were worth about 90-100k and 40-50k respectively not bad if u happened to get lucky. I also enjoyed troll farming outside droks and the Hydra farm was very fun to me as well...Seems like the older farms were the most enjoyable for me. I miss the good old days with no lootscaling...sigh!!

Farming zealots and Giants at Riverside, one of the first good GW farming spots.
Loved those gold FDS's and Giants Boots.
